UNDP and Partners Present the Results of Public Opinion Survey on Energy Efficiency

  • Published 18/12/2025

On December 18, the results of the Public Opinion Survey on Issues Related to Energy Efficiency in Yerevan and Regions of Armenia were presented and discussed with media representatives, communications specialists from partner government institutions, and other stakeholders.

Compass Business Group conducted the survey in August-September 2025 commissioned by the Environmental Project Implementation Unit (EPIU) of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme–Green Climate Fund (UNDP–GCF) “De-risking and Scaling Up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” project.

The survey covered over 3,000 respondents in all regions of Armenia, including Yerevan, and encompassed a diverse age, social, and professional groups. It assessed both public awareness of energy efficiency and perceptions that may influence participation in energy efficiency programs.

Key survey findings include:
• 56.2% of respondents were familiar with the concept of energy efficiency.
• 46.9% noted that energy efficiency programs significantly contribute to reducing costs, retaining heat, and improving apartment comfort levels.
• 85.9% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the results of energy efficiency measures.

During the presentation, Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, emphasized the importance of understanding public perceptions of energy-efficient retrofits and their impact on quality of life. "We are proud to see the results of our continuous efforts: more than half of Armenia’s population now has a clear understanding of energy efficiency. At the same time, we recognize that raising public awareness must remain a priority. Increasing demand for energy-efficient solutions among the public will not only encourage greener practices but also contribute to the advancement of the country’s green energy policies," she said.

Armen Ajamoghlyan, Coordinator of the Project’s first component, EPIU, highlighted that over the past four years, as a project partner, EPIU has contributed to raising public awareness of energy efficiency through various initiatives. He also noted the important role of local media in covering program activities, results, and the improvements seen in beneficiaries’ lives.

"We highly value this cooperation with the media, the impact of which is also reflected in this survey. We hope the findings will help policymakers and key stakeholders act more strategically in the future," he added.

The Armenian version of the survey is available here.
