Presentation of Technical Publications on Energy Efficiency in Buildings for Armenia

  • Published 29/05/2025

On May 14, 2025, stakeholders from Armenia’s construction, climate, and urban development sectors gathered in Yerevan for the official Presentation of Technical Publications on Energy Efficiency (EE) in Buildings. The event, held under the UNDP-GCF “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” project, was an important step in the country’s move toward smart, sustainable, and climate-resilient construction.

The session opened with welcoming remarks from Ms. Diana Harutyunyan, Senior Consultant at the UNDP Climate Change Programme, and Mr. Vahram Jalalyan, UNDP-GCF Project Coordinator. Both speakers emphasized the strategic importance of integrating energy efficiency into Armenia’s building sector to meet climate targets and improve quality of life.

Mr. Artur Gevorgyan, Head of Climate Service of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center SNCO, introduced the 2024 Construction Climatology Building Codes [hyperlink]recently updated with support of UNDP Armenia. He outlined their critical role in climate-adaptive building design.

Mr. Vahram Jalalyan presented two updated cornerstone publications:

• The third edition of Catalogue of Energy Efficient Construction Materials,
• Advisory Guidebook on Thermal Insulation Solutions for enclosing structures in newly built and renovated residential, public, and industrial buildings, offering practical solutions for thermal insulation in residential, public, and industrial buildings.

These resources are designed to empower architects, engineers, and developers with the tools and knowledge they need to design, construct, and renovate buildings to meet the demands of a changing climate.

Ms. Ruzan Adamyan, Head of the Department of Construction and Scientific - Technical Standardization at the Urban Development Committee, gave a strategic update on Armenia’s progress in developing and localizing EE building codes and standards. Her talk focused on regulatory advancements and the integration of energy efficiency principles into Armenia’s legislative framework.

The event concluded with an opportunity to exchange insights and foster new partnerships for promoting energy efficient construction practices across Armenia.
